A good weekend

Just concluded what I'd have to call a pretty solid weekend. Started on Friday (as weekends often do) with a big breakthrough run (4.1 miles in 35 minutes, yes), returning just in time to watch the Bulls beat the dirty, dirty Rhinos (very dirty).

Saturday, of course, was the Ilkley trip. After a false start (albeit not quite as false as last time), myself and Fromage managed to actually board a train and everything, and magically (not magically) arrive in Ilkley some 30 minutes later.

The course, then. It's basically what I thought it would be - Denton Road is pretty much flat and boring. Carter's Lane is the biggie, it's pretty much a mile, and it isn't quite as horrible as I might have built it up as. Don't get me wrong, it's still a solid hill, but it pales in comparison with Cliff Hollins Lane. I suppose the hill training we've been doing (thanks, Nom) has made it feel a bit more normal. Curly Hill is genuinely very steep indeed and fairly terrifying, yet fun. It's very easy to miss the turn onto Middleton Avenue, which is also downhill, but dead straight, and hence not as terrifying. And that's the whole course, really. Fromage certainly was less concerned about it having completed a lap.

After that, we bombed up and down Denton Road for a while, and that was more or less that.

Sunday was pretty standard, cycling to Spenborough (passing Veg and Nom, except I was in the zone so I just mumbled weakly, sorry), putting in a stint in a fairly deserted pool, and riding back in some very pleasant sunshine indeed.

And now I'm going to inhale a big pile of pork and chips, have some cake, and settle down for an evening of baseball. Rah!
